Olympique Lyonnais boss Jean-Michel Aulas has expressed his desire to keep Karl Toko-Ekambi at the Groupama Stadium on permanent basis.
In a recent outing on French tabloid “Le Progress”, the president dropped details on Ekambi’s future.
“First, we are negotiating for more time since his loan was scheduled to end in June. We want Villarreal to extend it till the end of July. We have written to Villarreal, we are still waiting for a response from them. But we have a picture of what we want. Unfortunately we can’t go ahead if the current campaign doesn’t end. We are very satisfied with Ekambi and we will try to make his loan move permanent”: Aulas told Le Progress.
The former SCO Angers striker returned to France from Villarreal in the January transfer window on loan with an option for a permanent deal at the price of 11.5 Million Euros should Lyon qualify for next seasons’s UEFA champions league.
The Paris-born Cameroonian scored two goals and provided three assists in 12 games in all competitions since he arrived Lyon.
Unfortunately his contributions hasn’t placed the club in their much desired champions league spot. Lyon is 7th, 16 points away from the much coveted second champions league spot as the world waits for the CoronaVirus pandemic to give way to the return of football.
The 2017 AFCON winner is a full international with three goals in 30 appearances since his debut for the Indomitable Lions in 2015.
Toko is tied to Villarreal till end of June 2023 but with Aulas everything is possible.
