Intermediate Lions of Cameroon forward Jacques Zoua Daogari has told the media that the team will step out on the pitch for the 6th edition of the African Nations Championship with just one goal.
The goal to win as the host is what we have in mind, Zoua told journalists during Friday’s pre-match conference with Zimbabwe in sight.
The optimistic confession from the 2017 AFCON winner with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon may just quench all worries that has characterized the build up to the competition with Cameroon failing to impress in the Pre-CHAN invitational Tournament.
Zoua says the team has put that behind them. It os true our results during the preparatory matches needed to be better but we have put that behind us. We are cautious of the expectations of Cameroonians. As host we are working hard to ensure we get in the end we emerge champions,” Zoua opined.
The 29-year-old AS Futuro of Mfou forward only returned home from Romanian side Astra in the build up to the tournament with the technical staff counting on him for goals.
Zoua opened his goal account for the intermediate Lions of Cameroon in the 1-2 defeat to Niger during the pre-CHAN mini-tournament in Yaoundé. He has been quite impressive in other games and goes into the tournament as one of the experience lads alongside Yannick N’djeng who has also represented the senior national selection.
The striker brings tournament experience in the Cameroon team and he is expected to lead the lines for coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpile’s side when they get their tournament underway on Saturday against Zimbabwe at the historic Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
Captain Solomon Banga and mates have been boasted by the visits of greats Samuel Eto’o, Roger Milla, Geremi Njitap, François Omam-Biyik amongst others in the last few days.
Cameroon open their fourth participation in this sixth edition of the the CHAN on home soil against an experienced Zimbabwe side that has attended a record all-but-one edition of the competition.
The host will face Mali and Burkina Faso later in the 16-nations competition.
