The head coach of Dreams FC Abdul Karim Zito has affirmed J E Sarpong’s assertion that he is one of the few managers in the country who cannot be influenced.
Coach J E Sarpong identified few coaches in the country who are strong and cannot be influenced by club administrators in his interview with Akoma FM few weeks ago.
Among the coaches he mentioned were, Malik Jabir, Bashir Hayford, Karim Zito and himself.
Reacting to this on the same medium, Coach Karim Zito said it’s true he is not a push over coach. He has worked at Kotoko, Medeama, King Faisal, Harts of Oak and others and no one determines the players he uses in his games.
“At Kotoko before I played against Ashgold, a letter came from management that henceforth, I should present my squad to them before I mention them and I also replied them that henceforth, three of your management members should come to my trainings grounds three times in the week before I do so and that was the end of the story.” He said
“At Hearts of Oak, I used young guys because I was told there was no money to buy players.
After I left the club, I visited their secretariat and Ashford got up, shook me and said, it was when I left that they realized that I did a great work.
It is easier for me to leave your club. If I know what I am doing is right and you don’t agree. I will just give your money to you and leave.
I believe in allowing the players to train and select them.
No club has ever sacked me. I only leave when I see that you can’t cope with me, not because of bad attitude.
At Hearts of Oak, one of my games against Kotoko, after my selection, a message came that I should drop four boys Bossman, Joe Lewis and other two players. I asked why and they said they suspect that they have taken bribe so I should let them use Qur’an and Bible to swear but I told them when I went for my coaching course, I didn’t use Qur’an and Bible”
Even at the U-20 national team, though I am with Dreams FC, I had only one player in the team whilst other teams were having three and others.” He added
“A coach should have confidence and must be ready to take a risk because in life, without taking risk, you can’t succeed.” He concluded
Abdul Karim Zito is currently the head coach for Dreams FC and the national U-20 men’s team, the Black Setilite.
