Ivory Coast midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has joined CSKA Moscow from Everton on loan until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old who joined Everton from Mainz for £25m in August 2019, has made eight appearances in all competitions.
Gbamin only played eight times for the Blues after being plagued by a series of unfortunate injuries that required surgery and intensive rehabilitation in that time. Five of those appearances have come this season, including three in the league.
He is able to move outside the English transfer window because Russian clubs can sign players until 22 February.
The Russian side are fourth in the Russian Premier League behind leaders, eight points behind leaders Zenit St Petersburg.
Gbamin was earmarked to be a replacement for prolific midfielder Idrissa Gueye following his move to Paris St-Germain when Everton paid Mainz £25m for him in August 2019.
CSKA have moved to sign him on loan and have also held talks with Leicester City for Nampalys Mendy with Russia’s deadline for transfers on Tuesday.
The 11-week winter break for the division comes to an end this weekend, with CSKA taking on Spartak Moscow.
