25 year old Ivorian defender Eric Betrand Bailly will be sidelined for a long time after suffering a knee injury in Manchester United’s pre-season game against Tottenham.
Speaking to reporters after Manchester United’s 1-0 win against Kristiansund in another pre-season friendly, United’s Manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer used the occasion to give an update on the defenders injury.
“He was operated upon today (Tuesday ). He will be sidelined for four to five months. We are hoping to have him back by Christmas. The surgery went well and the player is ok,” the Norwegian coach told reporters.
Bailly is not a stranger to such long term injuries. On November 8, 2017, he suffered an ankle injury which sidelined him for almost 100 days and he only returned to action on February 16, 2018.
Bailly has made 50 league appearances scoring one goal for Manchester United in the Premiership since joining them from Villarreal in 2016.
