Many Cameroonians still remember his great days in the colours of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and his exploits with different clubs around the world but a few may not be informed that set piece specificialist Timothée Essama Atouba was born this day 38 years ago.

17 February 1982 was a great day in Douala as one for the pride of people of the city and Cameroonian was born in the city.

Atouba’s set piece skills and excellent knowledge of the game of football took the left back around the in a 16 year playing career that began at Mineduc in Cameroon and took him round the world in the colours of FC Basel,Tottenham Hotspur, SV Hamburger,Las Palmas amongst others.

The former Ajax Amsterdam left back won 44 caps for Cameroon and these days serve as team manager for the intermediate Lions of Cameroon.

Atouba is currently a part of the Cameroon team is preparing for the 2020 African Nation Championship competition to take place in Cameroon this April.

It is his first job after his career as a player ended in 2014 at Spanish side Las Palmas.

The FC Basel and Ajax legend won nine titles for club and country, including the AFCON trophy with Cameroon in 2000 in Nigeria.
