The Italian Football Federation (FIGG) has placed a 10-match ban on Italian player Michelle Marconi for racially abusing Super Eagles and Chievo Verona’s Joel Obi.
Marconi was initially cleared of any wrongdoing after the first hearing in March, but the Italian Court found him guilty in the second hearing on Wednesday.
The player had directed racial statements to the Nigerian during a Serie B match between Pisa and Chievo last December.
Chievo had stated after the match that the 29-year-old was “the object of an infamous and disgraceful phrase that has nothing to do with the most basic values of sport, ethics and respect.”
The phrase “the slave revolt” had been used towards the former Inter Milan and Torino midfielder Obi.
However, Pisa had put up a response that Marconi didn’t insult the player.
