Henry Asante Twum the spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association has lamented that for Ghana Premier League to return or not is a decision which will be determined by what the Government of Ghana says. The Ghana Premier League has been on suspension for about three months now due to the outbreak of the global pandemic coronavirus.
The league season which was 14 weeks old has been on suspension with two outstanding games to be played.
The government of Ghana decided to put all social gatherings on hold with which our ever interesting premier league was no exemption as a measure to curtail the pandemic.
However, on Sunday 31st May 2020, the President of Ghana and his advisory body decided to ease down some restrictions including the return to training of non contact sports.
Football which is not a non contact sports continues to be on hold until at least the 31st of June 2020.
Speaking exclusively to Takoradi based radio station ROK FM, the spokesperson said, “The GFA cannot take any decision as to return to football as soon as possible or not and every decision to be taken by the FA will be on the advice from the government as to when and how to return to the field once again. We are engaging with all stakeholders to help reach a fruitful solution for the good of the game”.
He cited examples of some leagues in Africa are yet to draw their conclusion either to continue or to end their league seasons and with this the GFA is not under any pressure to rush into taking hasty decision.
“Some leagues in Africa are still not decided whether to continue or not. The Egyptian FA for example is doing anything possible to see if they could continue so we are calm and waiting for the right moment.”
Ghana Premier League was already truncated because of the Anas Video Exposee and Ghana football was hit with indefinite strike by the world football governing body FIFA and Ghana is yet to complete a full season in well of over two seasons now.
We pray for the best for Ghana Football to rise to the ladder and attain it glorious days once again.
