Africa’s football Governing body CAF will in the coming hours proceed to confer Cameroonian Born longest ever to serve African football the honors of Honorary President.
Mr Issa Hayatou served CAF as president for 30 years (1987-2017) during which period he is credited for thé modernization and taking of African football to world standard. During his tenure as elected president, Issa Hayatou saw the number of African nations participation to the World Cup rise to 7.
During a CAF executive meeting held in Egyptian Capital Cairo on December 10th 2020, the executive committee approved several reforms aimed at ending corruption and Bad governance, instill integrity as well as responses to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The executive committee then proposed to to the general assembly the wish to grant Mr Issa Hayatou the status of honorary president in recognition of his efforts in modernizing the beautiful game on the continent during his 30 years mandate at the helm of the confederation of African Football.
It will be a massive honor for Mr Hayatou who will be receiving this honors on Cameroon soil less than 24 hours to the staging of the CHAN Cameroon 2021.
