Union of Douala’s dazzling winger Innocent Assana says they are determined to win the league this season despite their erratic start of the season.

Union are currently on the 8th spot on the log with 13 points, five points away from league leaders Cotonsport, ahead of Sunday’s home game against crisis-hit UMS of Loum.

Union were involved in the relegation playoffs last season, but the acquisition of quality players like Serge Andoulo, Francis Baliang and Innocent Assana gave their supporters a lot of hopes that they could challenge for the title this season.

They have won four games, drawn one and lost four in their first nine games of the season. If they have to achieve their target, then they will have to show more consistency.

Innocent Assana believes they can attain their objective.

“Union is a great club and it’s normal that they should have big ambitions,” he told

“Our target is to be champions this season and we are determined to attain our objective.”

Union earned a hard fought 2-2 draw against Cotonsport in Limbe last Wednesday in a delayed day seven game, on the back of a 1-0 loss to Stade Renard of Melong.

Innocent Assana has been putting up some eye catching performances for this season, though he is yet to open his goal scoring account.

The 19-year-old is not bothered about that and hopes to get off the mark on Sunday.

“I will soon score, maybe on Sunday. The most important thing is for the team to get the right results, irrespective of whether I score or not.”
