The head coach of the indomitable lions of Cameroon Rigobert Song Bahanag, on Tuesday evening made public a list of 25 home based players to take part in a training camp in Yaoundé from the 23 to the 27 of May.
The list has sparked lots of talking points amongst Lovers of the MTN Elite one and two championships. Many have raised concerns about the absence of some players who have been phenomenal for their clubs in the first phase of the championship.
In this write-up, kick442.com zooms through some of the big absentees from Rigobert Song’s list.
(1) Anye Derrick_Cotonsport

26_year_old goalkeeper Anye Derick Fru, has been instrumental for cotonsport this season. After a difficult start of the season for the Cotonites, coach Gabriel Haman needed the experience of Anye to get back on track in the post_Aboubakar Souleymanou era. Anye has kept five Clean sheets in Cotonsport’s last five games, which have helped the 16 time league winners move up to the third position in Pool B.

(2) Arnold Penka_Avion of Nkam

Goalkeeper Arnold Penka Chiweng has been the main man between the sticks for Avion of Nkam, in what has been a scintillating first round of the championship for them. In the 10 league games he has played, Penka has kept seven clean sheets, and have conceded just five goals, keeping his team second of their Pool.
(2) Api Eric Enjenwei_ Astres of Douala

Astre of Douala’s full-back Api Eric Enjenwei has been in red hot form in the first phase of the championship. The right back has provided a whopping seven assists and have scored one goal, in helping the Brazilians of Bepanda go top of pool A.
(4) Axel Ndzana_Astres of Douala

Center back Axel Romuald Ndzana Ngolo, has been the dominant force at the back for the Brazilians of Bepanda. Apart from helping Astres concede just six goals in their 12 games of the first round, Ndzana has also had a hand in six of the 20 goals his side has scored this far (4 goals and two assists).
(5) Burinyuy Derrick_PWD

PWD’s captain fantastic is probably the most decorated team captain in the country for the past two seasons, haven won the league and the Cameroon cup. He has played a great role in taking PWD to top of their game, and in his absence, the team has always struggled.
Burinyuy Derrick missed two games in the first round due to a knee injury (games against Eding Sport and UMS Of Loum). In his absence, the Abakwa Boys conceded five goals in two games, but since his return, the team is on a run of three consecutive clean sheets, in games against Renaissance, Cotonsport and Dragon. His leadership skills in the pitch, is second to none.
(6) Che Malone

Che Malone Junior’s arrival from Union Sportive of Douala last summer marked a before-and-after point in terms of Cotonsport’s bid to seal their position Cameroon’s finest but unfortunately for the manager that okay his signing -Souleymanou Aboubakar , he didn’t trust him with game time early enough.
Coton had struggled to replace Banga Solomon and Ngombe Etame, who had departed before the start of the season, as Coton fell away in the MTN Elite One championship and in the CAF Confederation cup because of their defensive fragility.
First condemned to a perpetual substitute under coach Souleymanou and sometimes restricted to train with the reserves few saw the quick transformation of Che Malone and his becoming the rock on which the new success story will be made. Coton have conceded just one goal in their six matches Che Malone has played, keeping five consecutive clean sheets.
(7) Ulrich Zanga

PWD’s midfielder André Ulrich Zanga Ayisi, has been one of the major revelations in the first phase of the championship. The former La Galaxy man is the only player at PWD to had started all their 11 games this season, and has time and again operated as a made_shift right back, in the absence of Nyaba Brian and Billy Samin.
(8) Jean Emmanuel Chamdjou_Eding Sport

Eding Sport’s Jean Emmanuel Chamdjou, has been a secret weapon for Bonaventure Djonkep’s side on their way to topping Pool B.
The pacy forward has been a handful for defenders to handle this season, and has mostly been used as the machine to run down their opponents defense.
(9) Tegemo Emmanuel_YOSA

Yong Sports Academy’s Captain Tegemo Emmanuel, is one of the major absences in Rigobert Song’s list. The former Unisport forward has notched in five goals already this season.
Tegemo won the first ever David Mayebi player of the month, following his excellent form in the Cameroon Elite one championship, during the month of March 2022, and has been very decisive for the yellow submarines.
(10) Eyango Priso_Canon

Eyango Priso has been one of the hottest potatoes for the Kpa Kum this campaign. His two goals against YOSA on the last day of play of the first round, took his season’s tally to seven goals and strongly put Canon in contention for one of the top two positions in their pool.
