Cameroon Indomitable Lions skipper, Eric Maxim Choupo Moting has had his future in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations thrown in doubts after picking up fresh injuries.
The Bayern Munchen forward got injured on Thursday December 30, 2021 while in training with the rest of the Indomitable Lions’ squad at the Mundi Multipurpose Complex in Yaounde.
The attacker left the training uncompleted after developing an acute right knee pain, according to information from the outfit’s medical department led by team Doctor, Professor William Ngatchou.
An MRI test reportedly conducted after the injury suggests the damages could be deep and could affect the Captain’s possible participation in the upcoming 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
Thursday’s injury, sources say, appears disturbing to the technical team of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the skipper having recently had other injuries in the past weeks compounded by Covid-19 complications.
The former Stoke City and Paris Saint Germain forward will be looking forward to participating in the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time following his debut in Egypt 2021 and will be expected to get back on his fits in the shortest of times possible before the event.
The forward has been training with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Mundi Multipurpose Complex at Nsimalen in the outskirts of Yaounde since the start of this week.
He will be looking forward to facing the likes of Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde Islands in the group phase of the 2021 AFCON at the Yaounde Olembe Stadium when the tournament takes place from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
Meanwhile, four of the 20 players currently in camp have been sidelined from training due to Covid-19 infections and are currently undergoing training.
