The tragic story of a promising Cameroon footballer, in the name of Ekeng Patrick is refreshed in the minds of all and sundry this passed Wednesday, March 27, 2019 as he would have been cutting his cake for his 29 birthday.
May 6 2016 was rather the unfortunate day for the defensive midfielder. The midfield metronome had earlier told friends he needed a good old breather because of fatigue, but his coach needed him on the field of play to help out his teammates against Viitorul Constanta. The Dinamo Bucuresti player and Cameroon international collapsed just 7 minutes after his entrance in an awkward manner, seeking direct medical aid.
The tragedy happened when he was just 26 year old. All Romanian matches that weekend was postponed, and the midfielder was buried in his native Cameroon 9 day’s after he passed on to Glory.
For the national team, Ekeng looked the next big thing for country as he wowed onlookers in the 2015 AFCON, after he rose from the ranks of the under 20 representing Cameroon at the U20 levels 10 times and scoring 1 goal, and he managed in playing for the senior team 2 times.
The course of his death was suspected to be a cardiac arrest, though an investigation showed that the ambulance that carried Patrick Ekeng was faulty equipments and expired medicine.
