The Nigerian Under 17 (U-17) girls (Flamingos) qualified for the final round (Fourth Round) of India 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 0-2 win against the Egyptians in the return leg of the Third Round game at the Petrosport Stadium, Cairo.
Nigeria scored two early goals in the first half adding to the four goals’ first leg advantage.
The team’s top goal scorer, Opeyemi Ajakaye continued her goal-scoring form by opening the scoring for Nigeria in the fifth minute.
Aminat Bello in the 14th minute doubled Flamingos’ lead from Oluwatumininu Adesina’s well-taken corner kick.
Nigeria had chances to extend the lead as Alvine Dah Zozzu fired a shot from close range in the 18th minute which was saved by the Egyptian goalkeeper, Emad.
The Pharaohs came close from a free kick in the 28th minute but Nigerian goalkeeper, Omilana Faith made a fine save to preserve the lead.
In the 45th minute, Ajakaye had a chance to extend the lead but her effort came off the bar.
Nigeria earned a 6-0 aggregate win over Egypt and will face either South Africa or Ethiopia in the Fourth Round.
Ethiopia won the first leg 0-3.
Three countries will represent Africa at India 2022 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup.
