31-year-old Dutch born Moroccan defender Ilias Haddad has been suspended provisionally by the Confederation of African Football [CAF] after pre-match skirmishes with fans of TP Mazembe.
The incident took place in Lubumbashi in their return leg game in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.
Raja had won the away leg game by 2-0, though they lost the return leg game 1-0, they qualified for the semifinals on a 2-1 aggregate.
Ilias Haddad was an unused substitute, but he was caught on camera in a scuffle with fans of TP Mazembe around the tunnel before kickoff.
Details of the incident have not been released, but CAF has already identified Haddad as a transgressor, based on video footage.
CAF has “immediately and provisionally” suspended the Raja of Casablanca defender.
“Prior to the start of the match, there was a confrontation between some players of Raja and supporters of TP Mazembe close to the tunnel,” a statement from CAF reads.
“After watching a video of the incident, the CAF Disciplinary Board has decided as follows:
“To suspend player #15 Ilias Haddad immediately and provisionally until he appears before the Disciplinary Board for the next meeting for an official hearing.”
