Cottage Eagles of Tunisia finished last of group B after they lost their final match of the preliminary stage of the IHF Men’s World Championship in Egypt.
The North African country had lost a game and drawn one against Brazil and needed a win to make qualification to the main round a reality.
Though the Tunisians took the game to the Europeans, but couldn’t match the might of the Spaniards.
At half time, it was 17 points in favour of Spain while Tunisia had 14 points as Fernandez and line player Ruben Marchan Criado having a combined tally of 12 of Spain’s 17 goals.
As the Eagles tried to contain Spain the better Spain became and with a combination of good goalkeeping and attack, Spain headed for 36 to 30 victory to top the group.
According to ihf.info, it is the second time in the past five editions of the IHF Men’s World Championship, Tunisia failed to progress from the preliminary round.
They head to Group I of the President’s Cup, where they will face two other African teams, Angola and DR Congo.
