Two years ago, Angola recorded an unimaginable win against Qatar at the 2019 IHF World Championship in Japan and when the two teams were pitched in group C of the 2021 tournament, many wondered if lightening will strike twice.
However, the Asia Champions were in for a revenge as they defeated the third runner up at the 2020 African championship by five-point advantage at the Borg Al Arab Sports Hall on Friday.
Qatar looked poised to take the day after coming back in the early stage of the game from 1-3 to 7-6. They kept the tempo to end the first phase of the game by a point lead; 14-13.
As the game progressed, the Asian team grew into the game taking control of proceedings as the African side tried getting back to the game.
Qatar stretched the lead from the three points at some point in the second half to five with the help of winger Ahmed Meddy leading by 28-23.
The game looked beyond the reach of Angola few minutes to the end of he game as Qatar went ahead to win their first match of the handball mundial in Egypt by 30 points to 25 points.
