Richard Towa has been appointed Gokulam Karela FC head coach after the sacking of Bino George.
kick442.com understands Towa has agreed a deal to manage the Malabarians on an 18-month contract, with the option to extend by an additional 12 months per performnce.
Towa, 52, signed his contract on Tuesday morning and will lead training later this week.
Towa told Kerela FC website: “It is an honor to be part of Gokulam Kerala FC. The club is a highly-winning club in Indian football and I want to make sure the winning streaks of the club continue further. This will be a new challenge and I believe we can win more trophies together.”
He also detailed about his ambitions and his plans, as well as how he would get the players fitter, impressing Sree Gokulam Group and the rest of the club’s hierarchy.
His appointment is a significant coup for the Sree Gokulam Group. Towa’s years in charge of different Cameroonian clubs and foreign clubs have been marked by successes all be it without trophies.
He left five time Cameroon champions Union Sportive of Douala over the summer after guiding them through to another successful 2020-21 season in the MTN Elite One championship.

VC Praveen added; ”The coach is experienced and his strength lies in nurturing youngsters. For Gokulam Kerala FC the motto is to develop talents and at the same time win all the titles. We hope that more youngsters will get a chance in the top flight and we also need a hat-trick of wins in I-League. So we believe Richard Towa is the apt profile for that.”
Gokulam president V.C. Praveen appointing the former Cameroonian international takes the number of Cameroonians at his club to two as they already had Aminou Bouba on their books.
Towa holds a UEFA Pro license and worked in Germany with Fortuna Düsseldorf before returning to Cameroon to manage the likes of Astre of Douala, Dragon of Yaounde, Feutcheu FC and Union Sportive of Douala.
He has also been in charge of the Under-17 and Under-23 national teams of Cameroon during stints in which he trained current Cameroon internationals Kunde Malong, Olivier Mbaizo, Martin Hongla, Nouhou Tolo among others.
Kerala are the current I-League champions. The five-year old Club will be hoping to achieve more under coach Richard who is expected in India in the weeks ahead.
