Nigeria D’Tiger’s Captain, Ike Diogu has refuted the news that he is thinking retirement.
While speaking on BCOS TV Sports Show: Saturday Breakfast Sports Show, the sensational player said the rumours were unfounded.
“No, I don’t have any plans to retire right now. I think those peddling the rumour are looking at my age and thinking that I’ve been with the Nigerian National team for a long time. Trully we have a lot of up and coming young players and I want to see all this young players playing for the national team”. The 36 years old said when asked if he was retiring.
“However I am not quitting now. When it’s time to step down, I will definitely do so. But right now I’m still playing at a high level and my best is yet to come. I don’t know when I will retire, definitely you will see me playing for a couple of more years” he added.
Diogu, a Nigerian-American has been in the national team for more than seven years participating at two Summer Olympics in 2012 and 2016.
He captained the Nigerian Male basketball team that emerge the first African country to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
He plays currently for Shimane Susanoo Magic, a Japanese basketball team.
