Albert Roger Milla has expressed his happiness and satisfaction, following the massive turn out from the Cameroonian public and a cream of African football legends who joined him to celebrate his 70th anniversary in a gala match on Saturday at the Omnisport stadium. The philanthropist considers himself to be a fulfilled football player having participated in five World Cups and other major competitions.
He will always be remembered for scoring four goals at the 1990 FIFA World Cup, at a time when many forwards had gone on retirement. Milla has 77 caps for Cameroon with 43 goals scored.
“I am so happy and overwhelmed for the massive turn-out from the Cameroonian public on this wonderful occasion of my 70th anniversary, indeed it was unexpected”.
“I played football through out my entire career and have many achievements thanks to the discipline. For me a player gets a fulfilled career after participating in a World Cup finals. I played three World Cups and two Military World Cups and today l am a happy and fulfilled person. ” He added
Milla is remember for his trademark goal celebration of running to the corner flag and performing dance. In 2004,he was named by Pelé in the FIFA 100 list of the world’s greatest living players.
” I thank all my partners, friends and especially the State of Cameroon for the wonderful support and attention granted to me”.He added
Today, roving ambassador in his country, he has embark on the training of young footballers, through the creation of the Roger Milla Football Academy.
“To the young ones, l urged you all to be more organized, self-discipline and hard working.To make a career in football is quite a tedious task that necessitates much patience and assiduity”.Albert Roger concluded
Health-wise he has always accompanied the State and many Non Governmental Organizations in numerous health campaigns and has created his foundation named Fondation Coeur CoeurD’Afriqie, who’s mission is offered assistance to persons suffering from cardiovascular diseases.His last appearance dates back to 1994 in a friendly game against South Africa.
