Stade Reims’ red-hot striker Hugo Ekitike was on target on Sunday in his club’s 1-2 defeat to SCO Angers in a French Ligue 1 fixture.
The tight contest had Stephane Bahoken in the sharp point of the Angers attack and Hugo Ekitike in the other end.
Both sides failed to get going in the opening exchanges and at the break it was goalless with the only talking point being the reduction of the host to ten players.
Valon Berisha was sent for an early bath just 39 minutes into the game for going beyond the boundaries of the laws of the game.
The contest found life in the second segment as both sides opened up to score and earn result.
Hugo scored from the penalty spot in the Match-Day 17 fixture to help his side level scores after Soufiane Boufal had put SC Angers ahead.
Angelo Fulgini restored Angers’ lead in the 75th minute of the game, finishing a pass from Soufiane Boufal.
Leading by 2-1, Angers introduced Mohamed Ali Cho in place of Stephane Bahoken with ten minutes of the game remaining.
Reims kept on 19 year old Hugo till the end of the game.
The French-born Cameroonian striker takes his season tally to seven goals and one assist in 15 games this season.
The teenager is his club’s lead scorer in the league this term.
Hugo has been a revelation for the French Ligue 1 side this season, having been promoted to the first team from the Club’s feeder team in the build-up to the 2020-2021.
Reims is ranked 14th with 19 points from 17 games this season and will host struggling AS Saint Etienne in their next League game on Saturday in a fixture which will see Hugo up against compatriot Yvan Neyou.
