An elated President of H.O Academy FC opened up to the media in one of such rare occasions, after his team smashed Dynamic FC of Buea 4-0 in their first round preliminary game of the Cup of Cameroon.

He made the ambitions of his club known, claiming that he was targeting a place in Cameroon’s second tier as soon as possible.

“I want the team to gain promotion, so that our players can gain more exposure in order to facilitate our chances of moving them abroad,” he told reporters.

The President of the Hilaire Owona Academy Football Club also explained the club’s strange decision to play in the South West Regional Championship, instead of in the Littoral where they are based.

“We find the people in this part of Cameroon very nice and welcoming, and it’s our own way of showing Cameroonians in the French speaking regions that we are one, and we have to learn to live together as one people in mutual respect.”

It should be noted that the H.O Academy FC is based in Douala and are planning to acquire land in the South West to bring their football Academy to the South West Region.

Contrary to claims that the team was based in Limbe, the President made it clear that they were based in Douala and were already operational.

“We are based in Douala and already have our U-12, U-13 and U-14s working already. We are looking to buy land here [South West], like 5 hectares to build one of the best Academies in Africa.

“I live in Europe and will like to replicate what I have seen there over here and give our youth a chance to learn their trade in some of the best facilities.”

Mr Hilaire Owona also made clear his ambitions in this year’s Cup of Cameroon.

“I want us to go as far as possible, the last 32 or last 16 will not be bad, as a new team that will be a good way to announce ourselves on the big stage.”

The H.O. Academy FC came to Buea with more supporters from Douala than the Limbe, Tiko and and Buea teams involved in the two games yesterday, all combined. That speaks volumes on the organization and ambitions of the team that was promoted to the Regional Championship last season from the Fako Departmental League.
