Saint Etienne welcomed their 23-year old Cameroonian defender Harold Dersty Moukoudi on Saturday in though he couldn’t help them prevent a 1-3 defeat away to PSG.
Saturday’s appearance was the first in over two months. The defender lastly featured for the club in a 5-0 defeat to Stade Rennes in December 2021.
The defender started the game on the bench as his trainer preferred Frenchman Elaquim Mangala over him but he later had his chance. Moukoudi came on in the 56th minute with his side behind by 1-3 but sealed the backline to good effect.
In the 34 minutes defensive operations Moukoudi and his defensive colleagues did the job on Neymar Jnr,Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe who had scored a brace and assisted Dani Perierra to give PSG a 3-1 advantage coming from behind after Denis Bouanga scored the opener for the visitors.
The PSG fixture marked the 15th of the season for the defender who missed the last eight games his club played due to injury and his call up to the national team.
The match-day 26 defeat leaves doesn’t help Saint Etienne’s relegation escape efforts but they remain on the 16th spot on the log with 22 points going into their next game against FC Metz.
Moukoudi is one of three Cameroonians at Saint Etienne, fellow defender Bryan Djile and midfielder Yvan Neyou complete the trio.
Moukoudi and Neyou recently contributed to Cameroon’s third place finish at the 2021 AFCON and are considered a big part of Antonio Conceiçao’s plans with the Indomitable Lions.
