The Dutch Football Association has officially announced the cancellation of the Dutch season after the country’s Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced that football activities in the country are suspended till September 1st, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Chelsea bound Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech has openly expressed his disappointment over the decision.

In an interview granted to Algemeen Dagblad, the Ajax winger did not hide his frustration over the decision that has prevented Ajax from claiming a 35th Dutch top flight title this season.

“Now that there is no football, people are becoming even more unreasonable. As unreasonable as the debate over who should have been crowned champion,” Ziyech said.

“We are top of the log despite all the talk about how AZ Alkmaar should have been crowned because they beat us twice in the league.”

“Does it mean goal difference as has always been the case doesn’t count anymore? This is absolute nonsense.”

Ajax and AZ were both tied on 56 points after 25 playing days before the league was suspended but Ajax were top with a better goal difference, six points clear of third placed Feyenoord.

“There is no official champion. Of course I would have preferred to win the title on the pitch regularly, but if a champion was to be crowned under the current circumstances it should definitely be Ajax,” the 27-year-old Moroccan added.

Ziyech has signed a-five-year contract with English Premier League outfit Chelsea and will officially become a Chelsea player from July 1st.
