Cameroon based brewery-company, Guinness Cameroon has announced it will be sponsoring local football in the country.
The company in a release revealed early this week, declared it will be assisting in sponsoring 60 grass root football associations fondly referred to in Cameroon as “Deux Zero” 2-0.
The company through a project termed “Guinness Championship is back”, will be expected to finance the activities of the various local associations that will be selected for the deal.
Twenty of the associations will be selected in Douala in the Littoral region with 20 more in the nation’s legislative capital, Yaounde.
West regional Chief town, Bafoussam and the capital of the North region, Garoua will each have ten associations sponsored.
According to Guinness Cameroon, registration for the sponsorship will be done online with the deadline set at January 23, 2022.
Selection criteria, guidelines
The institution set out selection guidelines for the sponsorship deals. Top amongst them is the registration of these associations at the level of Senior Divisional Offices and Divisional Offices where the associations are based by those in charge.
According to the company, each of the associations must have 20 members with more than 50% of the members not more than 50 years of age. Under age persons of below 21 years old will not be recognized as registered members of the associations.
The associations must also show prove of suitable ground where matches can be held excluding playing grounds of primary and secondary schools.
They will also need to have an official and comfortable after-match meeting area as well as an official Facebook page or create one.
The newest move by Guinness Cameroon to sponsor local or grass root is coming as a continuation of the organ’s projects in the domain, the company having earlier engaged in the activities.
It is expected to help develop the game at the local levels in Cameroon and assist in revealing potential talents in Cameroonian youths.

The move falls in line with the organs plans of greatly promoting and developing local football in Cameroon, the brewery company having shown prove of its stands through the sponsorship of Cameroon women’s First Division football championship now referred to as Guinness Super League.
The company’s engagement in sponsoring the championship has been greatly applauded.
The league has massively developed and gotten highly marketed since the arrival of the Irish owned company barely three years ago as official sponsor of the league with clubs like Awa FC, FC Ebolowa, Éclair of Sa’a and Louves Minproff and others setting high standards for the league.
