Officials of North West regional side Vision Sports FC of Bamenda say the team’s distinction as the winner of the Fair Play Team of the Season award in the 2021 Guinness Super League Awards in Cameroon is a major motivation and challenge to the outfit.
Speaking in a presser shortly after the award ceremony held on Wednesday October 13, the representative of the Bamenda outfit at the event, Deputy Head Coach Nkembo Atefor who expressed joy receiving the award, said the team’s recognition as the most disciplined side during the 2020/2021 season is a massive challenge for the side to do better next term.
“I’m very happy and proud to have won something. This award is a motivation and a challenge because they (Guinness Super League) simply motivated us for our encouraging participation in the last season.” Nkembo partly said.
The trainer said the team will use the award as source of motivation for the season and reason for the outfit to put up better performances during the 2021/2022 season.
“This is also a motivation for us to start the new season. For us being voted as the Fair Play Team of the season means they have seen some qualities in us.
And seeing the other clubs with the number of trophies they had, somehow it’s like a challenge for us to try to catch up with them and win more honors like those others clubs went back with this evening.” He continued.
Challenging but promising 2020/2021 season
In a retrospective look at the 2020/2021 season for Vision Sports FC of Bamenda, the Deputy Head Coach Nkembo Atefor said the team slightly failed to have the expected results
“Last season was not that bad though we ended where were not supposed to end.”
He however reassured the side will benefit from the positives of the season that was characterized by several hitches, and do more next term.
“We finished there (6th) because most of our players were writing end of year examinations like the Baccalaureate which gave us a handicap and we lost six matches in the roll but that notwithstanding, when they came back, we bounced back and won our last three games.
This means if our players were present throughout, maybe we could have had more trophies like the others but despite that, God’s time is the best, we will fight hard next year.” He concluded.
Vision Sport FC of Bamenda which got promoted to the women’s top tier championship in Cameroon in 2019 defeated Caiman Filles of Douala and Éclair Filles of Sa’a to the Fair Play Award.
The team came out as one of the most dreaded sides in the league last term. The North West regional outfit stayed strong to challenge the brutally sweeping wind of established and threatening sides like Éclair Filles, Amazon FAP, Louves Minproff and champions AWA Ladies to finish the season ranked 6th on the general classification table.
