AWA Ladies Head Coach Hassan Balla and team came out as some of the biggest achievers during the maiden edition of the Guinness Super League Awards held on Wednesday October 13.
The 2020/2021 title winning tactician defeated Louves Minproff’s Oudou Kpoumie and Amazone Fap lead trainer Mike Josephine Ndoumou to become the finest coach of the season, the Super Coach.
Another Awa Ladies star, Tabe Brenda got recognized in three categories. The 18-year-old got voted as the Second Best Player of the Season after falling short of glory behind Fatimatou Kome.
The U20 Lionesses’ was also voted in the Team of the Season and equally received an award after ending the season as Third Top Scorer of the season where she spanked in 15 goals.
Her teammate, Tantoh Melvis, was equally named in the Team of the Season after distinguishing herself as one of the finest defensive midfielders of the 2020/2021 campaign alongside another team mate, Renette Berthe Abega who also made the team of the season.
Éclair Filles keeper compensated for exceptional season
Perhaps one of the least talked about biggest celebrants of the night, Éclair Filles goalkeeper Bihina Michaely was voted the Best Goalkeeper of the Season ahead of the likes of Louves Minproff and Indomitable Lionesses’ shot stopper Ange Bawou, Marthe Onghmahan of Awa Ladies and FC Ebolowa’s Pauline Ayangma.
The 18-year-old was honored for her incredible season after keeping 12 clean sheets and scoring three goals in 21 games for Éclair Filles during the campaign.
Guinness honors youngsters
Amazon FAP youngster Naomi Lesly Eto’o came out as one of the biggest winners of the night. The teenage sensation was voted as Revelation of the Season after taking the league by storm last term and netting more than 5 goals for her side to get recognized as the newest and promising talents of the league during the campaign.
She defeated Enganabeng Felicia and Happi Daniella Ida to the crown.
On the disciplinary ground, North West regional side, Vision Sports FC of Bamenda received the honor as the Super Fair Play Team of the Season as compensation for the high level of discipline the team showed throughout the season.
The team which ended the season ranked 6th on the classification table had one of the best records in terms of cards and conduct of club authorities including coaches and team presidents.
Fadimatou Kome shocks expectations, named Player of the Season
In what many thought will be the battle of forwards including top scorer Elaine Aime Bibot of Éclair Filles and Louves’ Kameni Flora, Éclair Filles midfielder Aretouyap Kome Fadimatou pulled off a shock win to get named the Best Player of the season.
The technically gifted midfielder tipped off AWA Ladies’s Brenda Tabe who finished on second spot, to become the finest player of the 2020/2021 Guinness Super League in Cameroon.
Former Louves Minproff forward Lamine Mana was ranked third on the standings.
Central referee Kenne Kouesso was voted Best Referee of the Season while Mbakop Fongang and Bahane Nawana were lined up as the finest First and Second Assistant Referees respectively.
Meanwhile, AWA Ladies president Thomas AWA came out as the Best Team President of the Season after being named as the Team President of the Dream Club of the 2020/2021 campaign.
The maiden edition of the Guinness Super League Award was held at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde on Wednesday October 13, 2021.
