Greek Super League giant Olympiakos of Athens were 2-3 losers in a dramatic round of 16 first-leg Cup fixture against Levadiakos on Wednesday evening in a game which marked to return of Kunde Malong.
The 26-year old midfielder who had been out of action since early November was included in the starting XI against the second tier side.
Two quick fire goals from Lucas Poletto and Stavros Panagiotou in the 3rd and 6th minutes respectively made it 2-0 for the host and underdogs.
The early goals meant Levadiakos could settle into the game and enjoy their football.
However, Olympiakos halfed the deficit through Rúben Semedo in the 26th minute who made it 2-1.
The game which had produced three goals in less than half an hour slowed down for the the remaining minutes of the first segment.
Kunde who endured a difficult first 45 minutes was replaced a minute after the break.
Unfortunately for Olympiakos the multiple replacements in an attempt to find their way back into the game didn’t pay off. Kostas Doumtsios rather scored the third goal of the evening in the 61st minute to make it 3-1.
Rony Lopes reacted two minutes later with Olympiakos’ second goal of the night.
Olympiakos, the multiple Greek cup winners chased the equalizer in the final 27 minutes plus added time but unfortunately they couldn’t score again.
The first-leg game ended on a 2-3 defeat for Olympiakos.They will face OFI of compatriot Devis Epassy Mbota in their next game which will be in the domestic Championship while preparing for the return-leg of the cup game which comes up on December 21st.
Kunde has featured in 19 games this season for Olympiakos, providing an assist as he continues to settle into life in Athens.
