Kevin Anderson has enjoyed a winning start to his tennis season Down Under after beating 16th seed, Feliciano López (Spain), in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) to progress at the Great Ocean Road Open in Melbourne.
The former Wimbledon finalist broke once in each set and hit 17 aces to take the win in 90 minutes to reach the second round at the Great Ocean Road Open in Melbourne.
The South African player won 40 of his 46 first service points and fended off all three break points.
It is the fifth time the South African tennis star will be triumphing over the Spaniard.
Anderson plays the winner between Hugo Dellien (Bolivia) or Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (Germany) who play on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Lloyd Harris lost in the first round of the Murray River Open, an ATP 250 event in Melbourne after going down to world 78 Egor Gerasimov from Belarus 6-3 7-5.
The Great Ocean Road and Murray River Open are curtain raisers to Australian Open which starts from Monday, 8 February in Melbourne.
