The 2021 Fortunate Cup came to an end yesterday with Olansile F. A defeating City Roller FC 2-0 at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
Despite host of chances falling to both sides, the game failed to produce a
goal in the first half but two well taken goals in the second half by Wasiu Ganiyu gave Olansile F. A the edge over a hard fighting City Roller FC.
The second half started the same way the first ended with both sides missing hosts of chances but at the hour mark, Wasiu Ganiyu who kicked the ball rolling for the second half found the back of the net with a beautiful volley well above the City Roller’s goal-keeper from inside the area to send the Osogbo fans into jubilation.
Moments later, Adekunle Fatai thoughts he had equalised for City Roller when he headed the ball into the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled offside, and two quick successive saves by Adisa Olivea preserved Olansile’s lead.
With eleven minutes left on the clock, Wasiu Ganiyu got his brace of the evening, placing the ball on the left hand side of the opponent goal-keeper to make it 2-0 in favour of Olansile F. A.
At the blast of the final whistle, the stadium went into jubilation mood with Olansile F. A fans singing the praises of their team.
With three goals to his name including a brace in the final, Wasiu Ganiyu of Olansile F. A won the highest goal scorer award and and Adeniran Ayomide of City Roller FC was voted the tournament’s MVP.
