Nigeria’s Golden Eaglet ground out a one nil win against Burkina Faso at the semi finals of the 2021 WAFU B tournament in Togo to progress to the final.
Michael Emmanuel Papo’s scored in the 77th minutes of the match to help the Nigerian team to the final and secure a ticket to the U17 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
It was a feisty encounter as expected, but it was a much improved performance by the Eaglet who have struggled in this tournament.
Despite the cagey nature of the game, Papo had an opportunity to put his team ahead in the first half of the game, but his weak shot was no threat to the goalkeeper of Burkina Faso.
In the second half, Nigeria would get the needed relief as Papo put Nigeria in front 27 minutes into the half in spite of occasionally threats by their opponent.
Burkina Faso continued to pile up the pressure, but the lads from Nigeria remained resolute to hold on to qualify for the final.
