According to FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino, “no one knows when football can resume around the world,” and the FIFA boss admits that it was “going to be different” when it eventually returns.
Infantino said that on Thursday as a result of the ravaging effects of the Coronavirus pandemic. The FIFA boss said, for once football “is not the most important thing”.
“We all wished that we could have football tomorrow but unfortunately it’s not possible and nobody in the world today knows when we’ll be able to play like before,” the FIFA boss told American football leaders through a video link.
“Our world and our sports is going to be different when we return to normality. We have to make sure that football survives and it can prosper once again.”
Sporting activities across the world, football included, have been halted with just a few countries like Belarus maintaining their domestic championships, as a result of the pandemic.
The Coronavirus has infected almost 1000,000 people around the globe and killed about 47,000 people.
Infantino recognized the need to respect the infected and frontline fighters who are trying to curb the spread of the virus by putting their own lives and those of their family members on the line.
“These are times of respect for those who suffer and those who are helping,” he added.
“For the first time, football is not the most important thing! Health comes first and must continue until the disease is defeated.”
The FIFA President was talking by a video link to a CONMEBOL congress in Paraguay.
