18 year old Ghanaian attacking midfielder Kelvin Ofori Gyimah has become the third Ghanaian to join Fortuna Düsseldorf this summer after he convinced the club during his successful trials.
He was handed a three year contract and will wear the number 14 jersey.
An official statement on the club’s website confirmed his move on Tuesday.
“Fortuna Düsseldorf have contracted offensive player Kelvin Ofori,” the club announced on their website.
“The 18 year old offensive talent from Ghana has signed a contract until 2022 and will hence play with the No. 14 at the back of jersey.”
Two Ghanaian players had earlier on moved to the Merkur Spiel-Arena this summer. They are Bernard Tekpetey and Nana Ampomah.
Afori impressed the technical staff of the Bundesliga outfit especially during their 2-1 win against Anderlecht in a preseason friendly as he was amongst Fortuna’s goal scorers in that game.
The player has expressed his delight and ambition after the move.
“I am very pleased to have signed my first professional contract with such a traditional club like Fortuna Düsseldorf,” Afori said.
“The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. I want to learn a lot here as a young player and develop myself step by step.”
“The team and the whole club have helped me a lot in the first few weeks and I cannot wait to play in front of the great fans.”
Fortuna Düsseldorf will play against Villingen on Saturday in the German Cup and the player is cleared to play.
One of the German outfit’s Board members, Lutz Pfannenstiel was full of praises for the teenager and expressed how happy the club was to have him.
“Kelvin Ofori is a great talent in Ghana and we are very happy that he has chosen Fortuna,” Lutz said.
“He has a great technique and his pace makes him hard to defend.
“We are convinced that he can develop as best as possible with us.”
Fortuna kicks off their Bundesliga season on August 17, away to Werder Bremen, that will be an opportunity for the teenager to make his Bundesliga debut.
