Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr says he wants to finish the final two group games of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers on a positive note.
Nigeria has a date with Benin Republic away before their final group game in Lagos against Lesotho.
The Franco-German opined that it is important to get a positive result from the remaining games.
“We want to finish our qualification on a positive note, and the two matches against Benin and Lesotho are very important,” Rohr told www.CAFOnline.com.
Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 2-1 in the reverse fixture and will need at least a point from the final two group games to confirm their qualification for the next AFCON in Cameroon.
The coach who led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the last tournament in Egypt said:
“Of course, we know that Benin is difficult to beat after our last game in Uyo (Nigeria won 2-1) and we need at least a point against them to qualify for next year’s AFCON,” added the 67 years old coach.
“Then, we are playing our final game in Lagos. We want to win in Lagos because it has been a long time since we last played there, and we want to conclude the qualifiers with a victory as well.”
Gernot Rohr asserted that the two games won’t be easy while he exudes confidence that his team will give their best to get the expected result from the games.
“These are not going to be easy matches because Lesotho drew with Benin, but we are going to give our best against these opponents.” He concluded.
Nigeria began their qualification campaign with victories over Benin Republic and Lesotho before two draws against Sierra Leone (home and away) reduced their lead to one point ahead of the two remaining group games against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
