Desire Oparanozie in action for Nigeria in the final of 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, Germany defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the final

Super Falcons and Dijon forward, Ugochi Desire Oparanozie has made the list of top ten revelations from Germany 2010 FIFA Women’s World Cup, can report.

Oparanozie was the only African on the list which was released by the Federation of International Football Association, FIFA website on Saturday, tagged “From starlets to stars” in marking ten years after the final of the tournament was played between Germany and Nigeria.

The first African team to reach the final of a FIFA-run women’s tournament, Nigeria raised eyebrows at the 2010 U-20 Women’s World Cup, where their livewire striker Desire Oparanozie rose to fame. In the wake of her impressive displays in Germany, she made the step up to the Super Falcons and subsequently took part in two Women’s World Cups, captaining the side at France 2019. To date, Oparanozie has scored a total of 22 goals in 35 international appearances.

Oparanozie who recently signed for Dijon has played for Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL Premiership side, Bayelsa Queens, and Delta Queens before moving abroad to feature for the likes of Lüleburgaz 39 Spor, Rossiyanka, Wolfsburg, Ataşehir Belediyespor, and Guingamp.
