Gerard Aime Mangolo’s header earned Bamboutos a precious 1-0 win at home against Stade Renard of Melong that moves Coach Djam’s men to the fourth spot on the log after the thirteenth round of games in Cameroon’s top flight.

The Mangwa Boys looked set to be held to a goalless draw at a full to capacity Limbe Centenary Stadium after some guilt-edged chances were missed in the first half by both teams.

Stade Renard missed the biggest chance of the game at the 22nd minute when Aristide Jordan Kouyep showed strength and determination to go past Ngombe Etame and Steeve Pagnol Tchouassi and played a through ball to Alfred Meyong who just needed to tap into an empty net within a meter of the goal line but his shot inexplicably went over the cross bar.

Bamboutos had their own glaring chance five minutes later, Chevalier Pierre Victor showed pace and trickery to outplay Bienvenue Mbith and Ivane Aloukou but his shot went inches off target.

A minute into the second half, Bamboutos midfielder Aristide Medjo drew a fine save from goalkeeper Cedric Djomo from a well taken free-kick at the edge of the box.

Bamboutos almost took the advantage at the 56th minute when Hansi Mbappé Muller picked out Pange Lobe in the box with a fine pass, the flick footed winger brought down the ball with a wonderful control with the chest but his bicycle kick that followed came off the woodwork with goalkeeper Cedric Djomo looking helpless.

The turning point of the game came two minutes later when Stade Renard’s left back Christian Aboude was giving his matching orders by referee Nseng Elanga Luc for a villain fowl on Gaël Eroume.

Laurent Djam then introduced Gerard Mangolo in the place of Chevalier.

At the 64th minute, from a throw in from Tchouassi, Rene Ndi played the ball to Medjo who spread the ball out wide to Eroume, his perfect cross fell on the head of Gerard Mangolo for his first touch of the game and the most important as his smashing header beat Cedric Djomo, for the lone goal of the game.

The home side almost doubled their advantage a minute later when Ndi again threaded a fine ball to Pange Lobe but his low left foot shot was parried over the cross bar with both hands by Cedric Djomo.

Bamboutos missed several chances to double their lead as their numerical advantage tilted the game to their favour.

Gerard Mangolo, Alain Njouaka and Herve Boumsong all missed clear chances, but they were comforted at the end as the Mangwa Boys secured all three points thanks to a commanding defensive display from captain Rostand Moukap and Aurelien Ngombe Etame.

Bamboutos have now moved to fourth on the log after a second consecutive win, after their 3-2 win against UMS of Loum in match-day 12, while Stade Renard drops to the 8th spot with 17 points after 13 games.
