Rigobert Song- the head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has handed a first start to 26-year old Hannover 96 midfielder Gaël Bella Ondoua as he names his side expected to overturn a 0-1 deficit against the Desert Foxes of Algeria tonight in Blida.
Song has made three changes to the Cameroon side that accepted a one-nil defeat last Friday in Japoma.
Ondoua takes the place of Jean Emile Onana in the transitional midfield role. He is joined in the starting XI by forward Leandre Kana Tawamba of Al Taawoun who also played from the second segment in tbe first-leg game.
Arguably Cameroon’s promising midfielder in the reversed fixture, Ondoua has to partner with Martin Hongla and Samuel Oum Gouet in the holding midfield role, and push Cameroon’s agenda of an eight FIFA World cup ticket hunt in “enemy territory”.
Tonight’s 8:30pm kick off in Blida has seen Song stick to Andre Onana on goal plus Fai Collins and incoming Ambroise Oyongo as full-backs while Jean Charles Castelletto partners Michael Ngadeu in the heart of the defense as it was in Douala.
Upfront Song has settled for Leandre Tawamba as lead forward while Karl Toko Ekambi and Eric Choupo Moting flank him.
Captain Vincent Aboubakar who limped off injured after 45 minutes in the reversed fixture is only fit for a place on the bench.
Ondoua in just his second appearance for his country is expected to bring his box-to-box characteristic in driving the Cameroon team in front on a night the Lions must score to stay on the track leading to Qatar.
Having created more difficulties for the Algerians in his last game, the man making his 17th start for club and country will be key for his country on the biggest night for this generation of the Indomitable Lions.
