Any parent would be shocked to know their child has gone out of their way to get what they want just as is the current situation with Cranes players taking to social media to ask President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for their USD 1M AFCON pledge.
Ideally, FUFA is supposed to take the lead and provide an update about the presidential pledge which hasn’t been fulfilled close to a year since it was made at a state dinner at the Statehouse in Entebbe. But what does FUFA have to say?
Football256 contacted Ahmed Hussein the head of communications at FUFA and he said they have engaged the government about the matter but did not reveal any more details.
“As FUFA we have always reminded the government through the Ministry of Education and Sports about the pledge and that’s as much as I can say on the matter.”
“But also everyone knows all the players were sorted by FUFA for their time at AFCON,” Hussein who didn’t want to divulge more into the matter told Football256.
The Cranes received their bonuses for camping in Abu Dhabi before flying to Cairo and also for the win over DRC and the draw against Zimbabwe as well as reaching the knockout round at the showpiece respectively.
Meanwhile, Senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Innocent Wanyama confirmed that the players’ pleas had reached the head of state and that communication to that effect will be made soon.
It’s reported that since 2013, the president has failed to fulfil up to 817 pledges he has made at various gatherings, it, therefore, remains to be seen if the head of state will put a smile on the Cranes players’ faces “very soon”.
