On January 10, 2020, African giants TP Mazembe announced Serbian coach Dragan Cvetkovic as the new Technical Director of the club, for a period of one year.

The name Dragan Cvetkovic is an all too familiar name to the ‘beautiful game’ on the African continent but the only difference this time is, he has been acquired as a Technical Director at TP Mazembe while Pamphile Mihayo Kazembe maintains his position as coach of the club.

Dragan, 58, is a former player who played with: INF Vichy, Besancon RC before enjoying his best career spells with SC Bastia and RC Lens in France.

As a coach Cvetkovic has coached over 12 clubs including Tunisian giants Etoile Sportive du Sahel, helping them win the Tunisian cup in 2014.

This is, however, the first time that the Serb has been handed a job as Technical Director on the continent.

The Serb has as an objective to lead the national technical development programs of TP Mazembe, therefore preparing the club’s football for the future. Dragan Cvetkovic equally has as a task to propose a long term vision and develop a technical strategy over the years in order to improve the level of the club, who haven’t claimed a continental crown since 2017; too wide for a club of Mazembe’s status. Cvetkovic has to achieve identified targets on and off the pitch within a set period of time most importantly.

TP Mazembe is the most successful club in the Democratic Republic of Congo with 35 titles since their creation in 1966.
