The head coach of Central Africa Republic has revealed he escaped what could have turned out to be a disaster in the football world on the night of May 31st breaking June 1 at his home in Bangui.
The retired Ivorian footballer who also managed the Elephants of the Ivory Coast has revealed God saved him by taking him away from the scene of the ugly incident.
François Zahoui became homeless on the first day of this month when fire consumes his home barely hours after he moved to the place.
Sources say the incident was provoked by an electrical problem in the house.
The 57-year-old Abidjan native moves into the well-furnished house that same Sunday.
According to Sports Ivoire, upon parking his things into the house, Zahoui went out to get food only to return and meet his home in flames as he tells Sports Ivoire.
“After putting my things in the house, I decided to go for dinner at an Ivorian restaurant in Bangui.
When I came back, I saw a crazy world around my house. Trying to ask questions, I learned that it caught fire. Certainly a short circuit I was told.
All I can say is that God saved me. I escaped certain death. I really praise the work of God.
Because supposing I was asleep or that this fire had started in the middle of the night that could have been the end for me. Everything prepared burned except my Bible.
Before I moved into this house, I had brought in a Pastor who prayed. God therefore acted. And I can only say a big thank you to him.”
The Ivorian emerged unscathed, but he nevertheless lost everything he had in the house except his Bible.
Before the incident, Zahoui was working with local players to keep them in good physical shape before football activities resume.
He has been coach of the country’s men’s national selection since September 2019 as the country hopes to break the AFCON absence jinx.
