The president of USD Franck Happi has recommended a professional football league as the only way out of the difficulties Cameroon football currently is facing.
Reacting to a question on how to salvage dwindling Cameroon football from Chariot FM’s Ekema Njoku on Thursday’s edition of “football development forum” on fans of kick442.com, the USD and SYCEC boss was very categorical.
“Football is about money, what can salvage our football is a professional league. This is a money generating business, amateur football can’t safe us. Under normal circumstances, the professional league is supposed to give money to the federation not the other way round.
The Indomitable Lions can’t be the way out, they play once in months. What makes football lucrative in a country is the professional league. Unfortunately people don’t understand that, they are not emphasing on that” President Franck Happi concluded.
Cameroon recently switched from a “malfunctioning” professional league management body to a transitional committee league expected to do better after 8 years of very little success under the defunct LFPC.
Amongst other topics on the night, president Happi said he had his words of advice for president Seidou Mbombo Njoya of the Cameroon football federation on his first anniversary as FA boss but opted to talk with Mr Njoya in private.
The new FECAFOOT has been on their toes trying to reshape football in the country not without flaws though. They run the professional football league for the 2019/2020 season.
He expressed his dissatisfaction at government’s efforts to accompany football actors, Happi also voiced his disappointment about being unable to construct an infrastructure for USD 8 years into his mandate.
He equally named the best XI players he has worked with at the Union Sportive of Douala,he identified the 2012 generation of Union Sportive of Douala team as the best of his time.He picked coach Siewe Diallo as the best coach he has worked with, ahead of 2012 title winner Bonaventure Djonkep.
Union Sportive of Douala have not had a smooth start to the current season, they travel to Bamenda for their round 13 Fixtures this weekend. They will clash with fellow strugglers YOSA.
