Bin Adolf Nkembe Enow scored the only goal to help AS Fortuna of Mfou to a one-nil win against rivals APEJES of the same neighbourhood in a derby game played at the Japoma Annex A stadium on Saturday.
The former Apejes, Dragon and Colombe of Dja forward settled the contest with a 14th minute goal fitting enough to win any football game.
In his third start in three games this season the 22-year old attacking midfielder made it a rough afternoon for the APEJES defense.
14 minutes from time, Guy Edoa Serge and mates combined to good effect teeing up Nkembe Enow to break the defensive set up from Yerima Issa and his colleagues.
Nkembe put the ball pass Hecube Wislow in goal for APEJES of Mfou.
The goal gave Fortuna a deserved lead which they kept till the end with APEJES surprisingly failing to score from 20 attempts across the 90 minutes.
It was an afternoon where both sides squandered a handful of scoring opportunities.
Though both sides showed their attacking strength and desire in the rest of the opening 45 minutes, there wasn’t another goal thus leaving the fans to cheer the first goal till the end.
Fortuna were the better side after the recess and created most of the clear cut opportunities but poor finishing was their undoing.
It could have been a different outcome for Onana Rodrique and his mates if not for the brilliance of Jean Daniel Nyeck who stood between APEJES and a goal in Japoma.
The result equals first three points for Fortuna this term, adding to their previous two points from two draws.
Fortuna moves up to the fifth spot in Group B of the championship while APEJES drops to sixth.
The next round of matches will be played within the week.
