76-years-old Lorenzo Sanz, former Real Madrid president has died of the coronavirus. The former president who led Real Madrid to 1998 European cup after a 32 year wait, died on Saturday after days being tested positive of the virus.
His dead was announced by his son Lorenzo Sanz Duran on twitter saying,
“My father has just died. He didn’t deserve this ending and in this way. One of the best, bravest, hardest-working people I’ve ever known leaves us. His family and Real Madrid were his passion. My mother and my siblings enjoyed all of his moments with pride. RIP.”
Lorenzo, who has initially stayed not to spread the various went to the hospital on Tuesday after eight days of fever. A test carried out there confirmed that he had contracted Covid-19 as well as respiratory problems he suffered kidney failure because of an infection and died on Saturday night
His leadership lasted five years at Bernabeu from 1995-2000 where in Real break the silence after 38 years of wait. Real won Champions League twice under his reign in 1998, Madrid finally won the European Cup for the first time since 1966, defeating Juventus 1-0 in the final in Amsterdam a lone goal from Mijatovic and in 2000.
