Just like Rita Nwadike with three (3) goals at FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nkiru Okosieme also scored three (3) goals but all her goals came during 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States of America (USA).
Nkiru Okosieme captained Super Falcons of Nigeria as a teenager during the 1991 inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in China. She appeared at the first four (4) FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003.
Super Eagles fans will be familiar with “Headmaster” Mutiu Adepoju for scoring with his head. Nkiru Okosieme is also a replica of Mutiu Adepoju with the Super Falcons. She is popularly known as “Head Mistress” due to the fact that she normally scores important goals for Super Falcons with her head.
Nkiru Okosieme scored three (3) goals for Super Falcons during 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in USA scoring against Denmark, USA and Brazil as Nigeria reached the quarter-final of the tournament (their best result so far at the World Cup.
She also went on to win three (3) African Women Championship trophies with Super Falcons in 1998, 2000, and 2002.
Today, I humbly remembered Super Falcons “Headmistress”, Nkiru Okosieme.
