Atezambong Fomo Carine, Cameroon’s female referee has been preselected to take part in a final training course ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s world cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The daring football referee is amongst 19 female referees from Africa preselected by the World Football governing body.
Atezambong Fomo Carine and her preselected colleagues will be part of the “Road to AUS/NZL” project where the best from the continent will be selected at the end to take part in the final tournament.
Atezambong Fomo Carine becomes the second female Cameroonian referee preselected ahead of the women’s world cup.
In 2015, Therese Raissa Neguel Damgoua from Cameroon was pre-selected and was eventually selected among 29 others during the FIFA Women’s world cup in Canada, 2015.
Atezambong Fomo Carine is the only female referee in Cameroon’s men’s top tier championship. The former karateka and judoka became a FIFA international referee in 2015.
