The Under-17 women’s national selection of Eritrea have voluntarily withdrawn from the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign on March 1st, 2022 this letting the baby lionesses of Cameroon progress.
Their second round qualifier clash was initially programmed to take place third week of March in Eritrea and April in Cameroon.
Eritrea, were to face Cameroon in the second round of this competition But given their withdrawal, Cameroon walks over on forfeiture as they await their opponent for the third round.
Eritrea had even picked up qualification to battle for a spot of being one amongst the Three nations to Represent CAF at the 2022 U17 women’s World Cup in India later this year,after Sudan and Mauritania withdrew from the competition.
This was to be the second round of qualifiers after the baby Lionesses were exempted from the first preliminaries. Eritrea however won their game in the preliminaries against South Sudan, to advance to the first round.
Coach Stephane Ndzana and his girls have made it to the third round of qualifiers after Eritrea’s withdrawal.
Spain are defending champions, having won their first title in 2018.
