The World football governing body FIFA, has indefinitely suspended Kenya and Zimbabwe from all football related activities, for third_party interference.
This suspension for Zimbabwe has been long awaited, following government interference in the running of the game in the country.
According to Soccer24.co.zw, Football in Zimbabwe has been marred by chaos ever since the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board, citing several violations on November 16 last year.
FIFA had reportedly given the sports and recreation commission up to January 03, 2022, to reinstate Kamambo, something which they failed to do.
The suspension means that the Zimbabwean Football Association (ZIFA), loses all its membership rights as of 24 February 2022 till further notice. Therefore ZIFA clubs and national teams will no longer take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted. This also means that neither the ZIFA nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA and/or CAF.
It is a similar scenario for Kenya, where the government had dissolved the Football federation due to a reported ‘massive embezzlement’ of funds. The FA president Nick Mwendwa was arrested and taken to court, and a caretaker Committee was formed which has been running activities since then.
Kenyan sports journalist, Austin Oduor, Sokafrika Reports Chief Editor told kick442.com that “The ban is welcomed.”
“The Kenyan FA led by a corrupt Nick Mwendwa and his CEO Barry Otieno have looted the FA dry. Favouritism, nepotism and massive corruption, Kenyans are tired of them and need fresh leaders. We accept the ban and are ready to put our house in order,” Austin Oduor added.
The recent turn of events mean that, No Zimbabwean and or Kenyan football activities will be recognized by FIFA until the government interferences stop.
