World Football governing body-FIFA has revealed that the final world cup play-offs games pitting the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon against the Desert Foxes of Algeria will be playedon March 24 and 28 in Douala and Bilda respectively.
According to information on the FIFA website, both games will be played within an interval of three days, and the winner on aggregate will qualify for the global showpiece.
It is a remake of the one of the fixtures of the qualifier for the 2018 tournament which Cameroon won 2-0 at home and played a draw in Blida.
According our sources the Cameroon Football federation, FECAFOOT, has opted for the 60 000 capacity jewel in the outskirt of Cameroon’s millionaire city – Douala as host of one of Africa’s most anticipated football contest in the final twist before Qatar 2022.
The Stadium which was handed to the government of Cameroon in 2020 and recently hosted games of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, including Algeria’s group matches.
The game will be Cameroon’s fourth International game at the venue and previous outings at the venue have produced two wins and a draw, barely three weeks after the finished third in their own AFCON tournament.
Algeria were at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but struggled at Japoma during the just-ended AFCON tournament and will be hoping to improve on their form in Japoma where they have not won in three outings, before the return game at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida four days later.
The desert Foxes are seeking a fifth qualification to the FIFA World Cup, in 2022 while an aggregate win for Cameroon will take them through to the eighth FIFA World Cup tournament, in Qatar.
