Senegalese keeper, Edouard Mendy has been voted the Best Goalkeeper in the 2021 FIFA Awards.
The Chelsea keeper was announced the winner on Monday January 17, 2022 during the event held online.
The Terenga Lions keeper who is currently in Cameroon with Senegal for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, defeated Germany and Bayern Munchen goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer and Paris Saint Germaine Italian shot stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, to highly valued prize.
Edouard Mendy won the UEFA Champions League with English side, Chelsea during the 2020/2021 season and has been ranked as one of finest keepers in the English Premier League barely months after joining the two time European champions from French side, Renness.
Monday’s award saw Edouard Mendy’s Head Head Coach at Chelsea, German born Thomas Tuchel named as Best FIFA Coach for 2021 with English manager, Emma Hayes named Best FIFA Women’s Coach.
Chilean Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper, Christiane Endler was announced as Best Women’s Goalkeeper for the year 2021.
Meanwhile, Canadian forward, Christiane Sinclaire received The Best FIFA Special Award for her excellent display in the course of the last season.
Argentine defender, Eric Lamela received the Puskas Award for the best goal of the year for an EPL goal scored for English side, Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal.
Denmark and Finland fans bagged the award for Best Fans of the year 2021 as Denmark National Team and Danish Medical Team and Staff, grabbed the FIFA Fair Play award of the year.
The FIFA The Best Award is an annual award by world football governing body, FIFA recognizing the game’s most performing players globally in a calendar year.
It also honors other extra individuals who in one way or the other, contribute to the success of the game.
