Moje Queens FC of Erin-Ile, Kwara State, commenced their journey to gain promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship with a slim 1-0 win over Papa Soccer Angels.
Moje Queens FC and Abruka Queens are representing Kwara State at the ongoing NWFL Nationwide League as they try to join Kwara Ladies in the second tier NWFL Championship.
Team Manager of Moje Queens FC, Abejide Samuel says women football is improving in the state with clubs being established to promote the game.
“If Moje Queens FC made it to the NWFL Championship to join Kwara Ladies, it means Kwara State is growing in terms of women football. It’s not the first time. Kwara State has had Sure Babes. Kwara at a time had a team in the NWFL Premiership. That is what we are working towards. Moje Queens FC by God’s grace will promote to the NWFL Championship and at the end of the season, we also want to find ourselves in the NWFL Premiership by God’s grace.” He told www.kick442.com.
A goal from Towobola Timilehin gave Moje Queens FC a 1-0 win over Papa Soccer Angels in the knock-out stage of the 2021 NWFL Nationwide League from the Ijebu Ode centre.
Abejide opined that the result was the true reflection of the game as it was a tough one for both sides.
He said: “It was a tough match. The two teams have never met before even during our Aiteo Cup games. We thank God that we excelled at the end of the day by winning this match with a goal.”
Moje Queens will play five games at the round-robin stage of the league in a bid to gain promotion to the NWFL Championship.
“We are prepared for the next round of games. That is the purpose of our trip to Ijebu Ode. We want to promote and play in the NWFL Championship by God’s grace at the end of the NWFL Nationwide League here in Ijebu Ode. This is another morale booster for my team. Winning this knock-out stage makes me happy.” Says Abejide Samuel.
Moje Queens finished bottom at the end of the NWFL Championship in 2019 behind Royal Queens, Pelican Stars, and Police Machine and dropped to the NWFL Nationwide League.
